Roaming Hunger

January 01, 2020

Savoury Eats is combining gastropub dining with classic Southern soul to craft a brand new food truck experience, and that's before you even pay. The truck's equipped with mobile ordering that lets you choose your order, and lets you know it's ready via text alert.

Once you grab your grub, get ready for some of the finest dishes in Florida, mobile or otherwise - from a classic Chicken and Waffle 'wich that pleases both sides of your palette to Korean Kalbi shortribs over fried rice. The influences run wide and the taste runs deep on a menu that's made to enhance your borders and satisfy you down to your very roots. There's no other food truck in Ft. Lauderdale that offers the same mix of inspiration and ingenuity - both onboard, and alongside. To round it all off, all ingredients are local whenever possible, as well as sustainable.

MUST TRY

  • Chicken and Waffle Sandwich - Herb-infused waffle topped with spicy, Southern-fried chicken and finished with a warm bourbon and apple cider gastrique.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Royal Gunter.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

Born and Raised in Atlanta, GA. I always knew I want to be a Chef bc I was drawn to the fire, and I was a chunky kid who liked to eat. The two went hand in hand, I felt like it was destiny, lol. I went to Culinary School at the age of 17 and slowly worked my way up the ranks through my ventures from Fine Dining, Private Country Clubs, Corporate Dining and Catering, Traveling Chef Trainer, and Private Medical facilities recently.

The Town's 5 Most Incredible Melty Sandwiches

Croque-Madame is inspired by the people who gave us the Count of Monte Cristo in the first place. In addition to a fried egg, their aged-cheddar & Gruyere number is topped w/ Bechamel.

Royal was inspired by his favorite Spanish flavors to make this rustic grilled cheese sandwich. The lamb and pork patties make the sandwiches heart enough for a main. Check out the receive featured on Culture Magazine.

The cheesiness starts with the Grafton cheddar/ New Moon jack/ gruyere Classic on Macrina brioche w/ spiced blueberry au jus; a "Full Monte” w/ Canadian bacon on battered Cinnamon-swirl bread; and the Samish Bay Shout Out that's either something like "repping Chuckanut Dr., son!" or a sandwich w/ cocoa-dusted aged Ladysmith, gouda & peach-jalapeño chutney. And if you're tired of eating cocoa dust, there's the over-the-top Big Messy Madness, which is what you call Corliss Williamson when he takes down duck confit, taleggio, fontina, & mozzarella topped w/ braised greens, lemon aioli, Deluxe Foods gingered rhubarb jam & cracklins... without a napkin.

Not just any food truck. A gourmet food luxury vehicle, if you will. The brainchild of this truck? None other than the fine dining dynamic duo Chefs Danielle Custer and Royal Gunter – two in-house chefs of the BAMCO empire who dreamed of starting a mobile restaurant, this truck promises to make you melt. They refer to themselves as “The grilled cheese girl and the grilled cheese guy.”

There is a magical truck that appears every Friday, like clockwork.  This truck is named Monte Cristo and from it comes the most delicious grilled cheese sandwiches known to man (I know, bold statement).  In a time where there seems to be a new food truck popping up every day, this one certainly stands out.  There’s too much goodness to describe.
